OxygenOS 15 is now out for android 15 phones with OnePlus 12 getting the new OxygenOS 15. The biggest question is what is different from OxygenOS 14? With OxygenOS 15, OnePlus listened to it's customers and brought new features such as animations, new widgets style, OnePlusAI e.t.c which were not available on the OxygenOS 14.
The bad news is that some features are still missing that were expected to be launched with OxygenOS 15. Some of the AI functionality is missing but don't worry because OnePlus has promised to release them with future updates so patience is key. Let's see what's different from the previous model, shall we?

OxygenOS 15 Performance Upgrades
According to OnePlus, OxygenOS 15 will feature a smooth parallel processing for a better user experience with it's phone. Parallel processing will provide a full comprehensive coverage of interruption animations that will ensure smooth transition between apps. Aside from that, OnePlus is stressing on two animations: sliding lightly to exit an app will feature a smooth animation returning the app to its icon on the home screen, while a forceful slide will result in a parabolic exit animation.
Apart from that OnePlus says that it has shrunk it's system files by 20% but this will be in the flagship phone OnePlus 13. OnePlus has now launched in China with global launch to be expected soon. OnePlus 13 came with OxygenOS 15 straight from the box.
Animations and Visual Changes
OxygenOS 15 now has new app opening and closing animations. If you open an app and quickly close it you will notice the new smooth animations. While not most people will open an app and instantly close it, OnePlus decided to add the new animations for the few people who loved it. For speed enthusiasts the phone's seems faster and smoother than ever before.
There is also a new animation when you plug your OxygenOS 15 smartphone into a charger. A shimmering effect now appears when you plug your smartphone and when you unlock it. The new "halo" fingerprint animations showcases the shimmer effect too. Also some of the pre installed widgets like clock has received updated fonts, effects and animations.
Some of the color has been drained from the Settings section with a monotone theme. However, the OnePlus stock app collection is now brighter and more vibrant. The icon customization now includes an option called “Radiance” and “Shadow,” which join the old classic “Material” menu if you want to try something different. The Dynamic Color icon support is getting renamed. You’ll see it as a toggle under the Custom section as “Adopt system colors.”
Shelf Cards
OxygenOS 15 has added some few more choices for your quick widget section now known as shelf cards. You can resize these shelves to 1x2. 2x2, 4x4 which offers lots of information and utility as you can create a layout that maximizes the information on the screen. Some larger layouts have been also added. These apps aren't available in many places yet but OnePlus confirmed that Zomato as well blinkit widgets can be integrated here, too.
New Control Centre and Notification Shade
The Quick Access control center is not forgotten too. In OxygenOS 15, the control center can be split into two distinct access panels. While this is an optional change, it feels like it was stolen from IOS. If you swipe from the top right of the screen you get the Control Center. If you swipe from the top left of the screen you get notification shade. If you swipe left or right, you can quickly move between the two sections.

Live alerts
The live alerts feature in OxygenOS 15 expands the area around the punch hole notch to bring in widgets and quick access floating panels. This is similar to dynamic Island from IOS device except that not many apps are supported apart from default system apps. You can track a timer, see screen recorder settings, and personal hotspot data from here. If multiple apps are open, you can swipe between these to switch or dismiss. It works with media apps but doesn't seem to work with Youtube Music right now as I said it doesn't work work with many apps aside from the default apps. We can hope with future upgrades it gets better otherwise it will just be another IOS gimmick imported to Android.
Flux Themes
Tired of your lockscreen? Now in OxygenOS 15, you can improve lockscreen with flux themes. You can use the flux themes to add images and text that will dynamically change when you interact similar to the one in IOS. You can basically add basic widgets like step count or key information, including weather conditions. Well it is not extensive, but there are some cool options like to add blur or glass effects to photos. The animations style is also taken into account so you can have a more seamless experience with your personalized choices.
Circle to Search
Well this popular feature is available in other smartphones like Samsung, it is yet to come in a future OxygenOS 15 update. I'm pretty sure you know how this feature works: long press the gesture bar, and you can draw to perform a visual search and your circled image or part will be searched by google similar to Samsung and Pixels phones. Super simple, right?
Open Canvas
Although was initially limited to the OnePlus Open, the Open Canvas floating window management feature is coming to slabphones with OxygenOS 15. This just enhances the split-screen mode by letting you do things like drag and drop between applications. For example, you can drag an image from the Photos app into Notes and attach it inline. You’re also able to make the split-screen ratios greater if you wish without closing the secondary application.
Enhanced Recents app menu
OnePlus has understood that when you access the Recent apps menu, you might want some more clues as to which app you’ve come from so that you know where to go next. When you launch into the Recents or multitasking menu, the last app you opened will shift off to the right side of your screen to indicate you’re leaving this application. The navigation icons also show you just where you are in relation to that app.
Share with iPhone
Sounds very exciting and great, right? I personally feel this is a new pointless feature in OxygenOS 15, "Share with iPhone" feature. In theory or principle it is really great but in practice requires anyone with an iPhone to download the
O+ connect app and open it every time you want to share a file. To me, there are better and less burden services where you can send a file without downloading an app. You can create a mini hotspot and send it over which seems a more effective way.
Find My Device offline
If you have ever lost your phone and it was powered off, then you know the hassle of finding the your lost device. OnePlus is adding support for offline tracking of your OnePlus 12 and above devices with my Find My Device. This is not entirely great as it will only work for around 24 hours after your device powers down. That is just enough time to track where it was last seen and get it back.

OnePlus AI upgrades in Oxygen OS 15.
AI features in the Gallery app
OxygenOS 14 didn't have a lot of AI features just AI Eraser, AI clear face and AI Best Face. With OxygenOS 15, OnePlus is adding many more AI features to the OnePlus Gallery app, namely AI unblur, AI reflection Eraser, and AI Detail Boost.
AI Unblur helps restore blurry photos, AI Reflection Eraser helps remove glare when shooting through glass windows, and AI Detail Boost helps restore your cropped photos with more details. AI Detail Boost also makes an appearance on other pixelated images, prompting users to help restore the image quality. Note that these three features are cloud-based and are not run on-device.
AI features in the OnePlus Notes App
OnePlus is also adding AI to the OnePlus notes app. The OnePlus Notes app can automatically organize your notes, highlight important points, and even summarize notes. It can further expand or reduce content, convert a voice recording into a transcript, clean up filler words, and even clean up the formatting. All this would be processed through the cloud.
Intelligent Search
Oxygen OS 15 also comes with Intelligent Search, an extension of on-device search. Users can search across apps like Settings, Files, and Notes using natural language processing. Intelligent Search interprets the query, looks up the answer in your files and apps, and presents an AI answer back to you. Note that Intelligent Search runs on a combination of on-device and cloud-based AI, so it’s not completely on-device.
AI Reply in AI Toolbox
The AI Toolbox feature in Oxygen OS now comes with AI Reply, handled through the cloud. You can access it through the sidebar. This feature understands your conversation on messaging apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat and generates contextually relevant AI replies.
OxygenOS 15 official rollout and timeline
The first open beta of Oxygen OS 15 will debut on the OnePlus 12 series starting October 30, 2024. OnePlus is not committing to a fixed timeline for the stable release. Based on historical trends, the open beta program can last anywhere between one and three months, more if there are many bugs that need squashing. The company also mentions that the timeline for open betas will vary depending on the country, and respective carriers will determine updates to carrier-exclusive models. OnePlus also says that AI features will begin rolling out by the end of November. Some AI features will be restricted to certain models to “ensure optimal performance.”
That is a great improvement! Can't wait to upgrade my oneplus
