Release date
Apple announced that iOS 18 would be released in the fall. This should be expected to be coming along with the release of the iphone series, iphone 16 in September 2024.
A developer beta of iOS 18 is already out and iOS 18 public beta should be released in the coming of weeks which is expected to be more stable and bug free.
Compatible devices
The following list of iphones shall receive the iOS 18 software update:
- Iphone 16, plus, pro and pro max
- Iphone 15, plus, pro and pro max
- Iphone 14, plus, pro and pro max
- Iphone SE 3rd generation
- Iphone 13, pro, mini and pro max
- Iphone 12, pro, mini and pro max
- Iphone SE 2nd generation
- Iphone 11, pro and pro max
- Iphone Xs, Xs max and Iphone XR
- Iphone x and iphone 8 and plus.
Note : some features may miss due to hardware compatibility.

New Features And Improvements
Home screen customization
New improved photos app
Photos app undergoes a significant change. It will be able to add images into collections for easier search. Images will be organized into grids. User's will be able to search by filter such as dates. Apple intelligence will be used to extract personal context to help find your images. New features will be coming to help find QR codes and receipts.
New improved control centre
For the first time ever, user's will be able to separate the control centre into distinct groups such as media and socials. User's will be able to resize the control centre widgets and will be also be able to edit the control centre widgets which will appear on the lockscreen.

Upgrades to message app
With iOS 18, user's will be able to react with any emojis and be able to schedule messages to send at any convenient time. New formatting text features are also being Intergrated so that user's can strike through, bold and add ripple effects to text.
Apple is also introducing RCS messaging feature so that people who don't have iphone can also be able to send and receive messages with them.
Also Apple is including satellite feature so that user's can send and receive messages when cellular service is not available.
Mail categorization
iOS 18 will leverage the power of Apple's new-and-improved on-device processing to categorize emails into four folders: Primary, Transactions, Updates and Promotions. The Mail app will soon be able to provide easy-to-read digests, too, helping you to quickly scan for what’s important in the moment.
ios 18 Wallet app
Event tickets have a new design in the Wallet app, featuring relevant information such as a map of the venue, local weather forecasts, recommended Apple Music playlists for concerts, and more.
Tap to Provision, a new feature that will allows users to add eligible credit or debit cards to the Wallet app by simply tapping their card on the back of their iPhone. This feature will only be available in select countries.
iPhone users can now use Apple Pay in desktop web browsers beyond Safari, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and others.
Tap to Cash, a new feature that will allows users in the US to send and receive Apple Cash by simply holding two iPhones together.
Math solver in any text field
You might not ever need to use a calculator with iOS 18, because if you enter a math problem in any text field, the operating system will solve it for you.

Face ID-authenticated app locks
iOS 18 will introduce optional Face ID authentication for all iPhone apps – not just Notes and banking apps. You'll also be able to hide apps in a new Hidden Apps folder.
